Murder’s a Witch (Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery #1) by Danielle Garrett Review: Was this a marketing ploy to get us to read more of her books? It’s a genius. My fondness for paranormal fantasy and witches has been rekindled. Holly Boldt is a potion’s witch that comes to live in a halfway house for displaced …

I bought this classic horror to read for Fraterfest Halloween Readathon and was content to do so until Penguin Random House recently offered a FREE audio download of Frankenstein in connection with Kiersten Whites new release of The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein is a retelling of sorts of the famous Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
I guess I got the audio because it was recommended in the free audio download narrated by Jim Weiss. Idk. I was really loving Jim Weiss’ voice but when I went to recharge my iPod, I lost my place and I can’t recover it so I am forced to start from the beginning again. Ugh. It’s not going very fast. I am on chapter 6 in the Dark Descent but I’ve already listened up to chapter 9 once today already.*sigh. My iPod isn’t working the way I want 😦 I am going to start over from the beginning again tomorrow because I’m not retaining enough to know what the fuck is happening. This is why I like having the physical book! There is nothing wrong with this narrator. It’s a girl with an English accent. Katharine McEwan. Published by Listening Library.
“Exquisitely disturbing”, raves internationally best-selling author Stephanie Garber of this stunning and dark reimagining of Frankenstein.
Elizabeth Lavenza hasn’t had a proper meal in weeks. Her thin arms are covered with bruises from her “caregiver”, and she is on the verge of being thrown into the streets…until she is brought to the home of Victor Frankenstein, an unsmiling, solitary boy who has everything – except a friend.
Victor is her escape from misery. Elizabeth does everything she can to make herself indispensable – and it works. She is taken in by the Frankenstein family and rewarded with a warm bed, delicious food, and dresses of the finest silk. Soon she and Victor are inseparable.
But her new life comes at a price. As the year’s pass, Elizabeth’s survival depends on managing Victor’s dangerous temper and entertaining his every whim, no matter how depraved. Behind her blue eyes and sweet smile lies the calculating heart of a girl determined to stay alive no matter the cost…as the world she knows is consumed by darkness.

Review: Meh. Dark and dreary. Dank and gloomy. Like the Duracell bunny, it kept on going. It felt like it would never end. Suffice it to say, I’m not a fan. What can I say? Julie is sweet, Red is an asshole, Bran is full of himself, Currin likes to play with his food, and …
