Jackie's Forget Me Nots

No vase can overflow if you never fill it up.

Down The TBR Hole is a meme that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read. It’s a fun way to clean up your shelf to make room for new ones. Each Saturday, I’ll share ten books that have been on my to-be-read shelf for the longest and then decide whether I’m keeping them or not.

Here are the rules to follow:

  1. Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  2. Order on ascending date added.
  3. Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  4. Read the synopses of the books
  5. Decide: keep it or should it go?
    Alright, let’s do this!

The Books

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Date added to my TBR: Nov 10, 2011
My thoughts after reading the blurb: I found this fact interesting :

” Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910) trained as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi river; ‘Mark Twain’, a phrase used on riverboats to indicate that the water is two fathoms deep, became the pseudonym by which he was best known.

It sounds like an adventure about two kids Tom and Huck who go out exploring the world on their own. There was a song written called Tom Sawyer by Rush, and I feel like I’m sadly missing out not having read it. 😦
Verdict: Will keep. It’s a classic!

The Grapes of Wrath

Date added to my TBR: Nov 10, 2011
My thoughts after reading the blurb: I think Grapes of Wrath can tell us a lot about, what The Great Depression was like, for one family, anyway. It covers the very nature of equality and justice for all in America and portrays the conflict between the powerful and the powerless.
Verdict: Will Keep

Catch Me When I Fall

Date added to my TBR: Nov 10, 2011
My thoughts after reading the blurb: I don’t know why I have this on my tbr shelf. I mean Holly Krauss sounds like she has two personalities just by reading the synopsis. I’d say to her “don’t quit your day job?” lol By day she is a happily married businesswoman! At night she is a cougar? Animal? Prowess? Wild.
Verdict: Will not keep

Say Not "What If"

Date added to my TBR: Nov 11, 2011
My thoughts after reading the blurb: It sounds like many who have read it enjoyed it a lot. It’s about a dying man who longs for time lost. The reviews for Say Not “What If?” are excellent. I also think about death and what I can do to live longer. I fear to suffer most. The End is a part of life, so I’m okay with it. Although poetry is not my thing, I am curious to read this to see if it is as good as everyone thinks.
Verdict: Will keep

A Room Swept White

Date added to my tbr: Nov 10, 2011
My thoughts after reading the blurb: A case of a woman found dead after Fliss Benton receives the same mysterious card that is seen on her. Fliss’ new TV documentary portrays the lives of mothers who are wrongly accused of murder after experiencing miscarriages.
Verdict: Uhm I own a hardback copy so I will not keep it on my tbr shelf.

Angels & Demons

Date added to my tbr: Nov 10, 2011
My thoughts after reading the blurb: I read The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, and it was pretty good, so I thought I would like Angels & Demons. If it is anything like the Davinci code or is about Freemasonry/Illuminati and The Catholic Church, then heck yea!
Verdict: Will Keep

House of Gold

Date added to my tbr: Nov 11, 2011
My thoughts after reading the blurb: Bud McFarlane Jr. and his Pierced by a Sword series became known to me through divine intervention. Seriously. I am a firm believer in The power of the Rosary and the Mother of Jesus. I believe in all things Catholic and am Catholic myself. This book is an extraordinary fiction novel that ties the Catholic Church believers so well together, and the characters in it are exceptional you’d think they were real people. I don’t know how he wrote these books, but they are nothing short of a miracle. I LOVED IT! Caution: It may not be for you if you do not understand much about The Catholic Church. If you are Catholic, then I highly recommend it.
Verdict: I own copies of all three novels in Pierced by a Sword, and I am keeping them forever, but they don’t have to stay on my TBR list, and I don’t know why they are even on it. So, I will not keep in my TBR shelf :/

Conceived Without Sin

Date added to my tbr: Nov 11, 2011
My thoughts after reading the blurb: I want to mention that these books are meant as an evangelizing tool to promote Mary and the Catholic Church from the Mary Foundation and/or  Catholicity. This is a work of fiction. However, in the universal Catholic Church, Mary the Mother of God is not worshipped or glorified contrary to belief, but intercessory prayers are called upon to the Communion of Saints in heaven. God (Father and Son and Holy Spirit) have blessed the Mother of Jesus with untold Grace, and she lived an exemplary life on Earth (Hailed, full of Grace by Angel Gabriel) and was taken into heaven body and all (Assumption). It is heaven (God) who has glorified her and crowned her Queen of Heaven (with a crown of twelve stars, the moon under her feet crushing the head of the serpent). Evil is vanquished by her and St. Michael, obviously 🙂
Verdict: Am keeping my real copies but will move this book to its rightful place as Read. I will not keep it on my TBR shelf!

A Marriage Carol

Date added to my tbr: Nov 11, 2011
My thoughts after reading the blurb: Perhaps I am a little sentimental, but I think A Marriage Carol sounds lovely! It is about what a marriage covenant, in the real sense of the word, should be. A Marriage Carol is about a couple who no longer want to stay married to each other, and they both feel tied down to the wrong person and miserable together. They need some magic put back into them from the ghost of Christmas past, present and future.
Verdict: I would like to read this for Christmas. It’s a keeper.

Time Will Tell

Date added to my tbr: Nov 29, 2010
My thoughts after reading the blurb: Oh my goodness! I am surprised I have this in my TBR shelf. I want to read about it now! Lol. A little boy was taken away from his mother in England, without her knowing, to go away to Nigeria and live with his dad and new family. He is angry about being abducted, but only time will tell how this boy will turn out to be. It is the authors’ autobiography.
Verdict: Will keep

So I cleaned out 4 out of 10 off my TBR shelf this week. Progress is slow however certain.  I have now over 1050 books to be read.

  1. I so wish I could do this, Jackie. However, every time I start making a list of books to read, I lose interest in them…
    Good luck!

    1. Jackie says:

I hear you. I so happen to have over one thousand books on my TBR shelf so I need to go through it all and keep the ones I want and discard the rest you know? I am having fun reading the synopses of all my books I never knew I had 🙂
