My one word of the year is
I used a Word of the Year generator created by the talented Jennifer Fulwiler. It suits me fine because I would have never known what word to choose for such an event. I haven’t enjoyed the company of people lately much less been hospitable but neither does anyone come to visit, so perhaps my lack of hospitality IS THE REASON nobody comes over. It’s entirely possible.
I think, at the very least, hospitality means to welcome others. The dictionary says it’s the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers. You might have a doormat or sign on your door that says ‘Welcome’ like I do.
I also think kindness is a show of hospitality. Everyone is deserving of hospitality but not everyone is grateful. To be hospitable you might offer someone a cup of coffee or their favourite drink. It might mean paying for lunch or whatever it is that will make them feel like they mean the world to you because they are worth it, and treat them with high esteem, be a good neighbour and keep the peace. ‘Love Your Neighbour’ BUT do not play your music too loud!
My neighbour has a habit of doing that and I can’t say I’ve been hospitable toward them. Does calling the cops count?
