Jackie's Forget Me Nots

I love velcro rollers but ...

There is no quick way to remove the accumulated hair that gets stuck on them?

My camera shot barely shows it but can you see the brown hairs on these rollers? (far right)

dscn0815I spend a lot of time taking the hair off one roller at a time that I get sores on my fingers from the velcro. I know I can use a fine tooth comb, but it’s still time-consuming.

If there is any easier way, please let me know?

I use these rollers because it takes away the frizz and keeps my hair naturally wavy. The bigger rollers are what I use all over my head except for the shorter length areas like my bangs.  I know you can buy hot rollers, but frankly, they are a little too much money, and a curling iron or wand does the same thing, but you still have to blow your hair dry before curling your hair. Since I don’t regularly use hot rollers or curling wands, the easiest and quickest way to do my hair is with the velcro rollers. Besides, I like the way my hair looks styled this way.

As far as I know, I have not found anything exclusively on the market in stores for cleaning Velcro rollers. I did hear how one hairstylist cleans hers and she said she has been doing it for years! She just throws them into the washing machine with a couple of towels and puts them in the dryer along with the towels on a low heat setting for a little bit. I’ve never done that, but I am concerned that this method still won’t get the hair from them.

Yes, I just finished washing some rollers in the washing machine. I was afraid they’d be destroyed that they weren’t. However, as expected, all the lint from the towels is now on the rollers! On top of the hair naturally.

Now I have lint on my rollers after washing them with towels. Good grief

VELCRO ROLLERS-HOW TO CLEAN……..Use rubber gloves. I hate the feeling of old hair- yick. Velcro rollers should get a similar treatment to combs and brushes. First, remove the hairs as best you can, and then follow with soaking in a pan of warm water, with small amount of clarifying shampoo, added . Get an old tooth brush that you can throw away and scrub each roller individually. I know, I know…………….. Throw excess hair balls away and toothbrush when you are done. After, follow with a warm vinegar /water solution to get rid of any excess dirt or oil.

Thank you so much! I will definitely try this and I do have old toothbrushes I can use for that 🙂
