Survival of The Fittest

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Burnt.” Remember the prompt, when your home was on fire and you got to save five items? You left a lot of stuff behind. What things do you wish you could have taken, but had to leave behind?

My Blendtec Blender
My Spiralizer and Spirooli and mandolin
I also wish I remembered to grab my rosary and crucifix and medication.
All my books and kindle and Ipod.
Basically my entire house.

Sitting at breakfast I wonder if there is anything left salvageable from the consuming fire that burnt my house down. I hope so. Some things will take a long time to replace and I wish I could have taken them with me. It’s not that they are irreplaceable it’s just that I forget how life was much easier and the joy of being safe and happy in the comforts of my own home were. Now, all I think about is the basic necessities; like having a bed to sleep in, running water and food. Sufficient are the days worries but in the long road ahead I will survive and that is all that matters.
